Wolseley cements order for the capital’s first BSF school
Wolseley has supplied product to the first school in London to be built under the £45bn Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The UK’s leading distributor of plumbing and heating materials supplied sanitaryware and ironmongery used throughout the new £7.8 million Michael Tippett School in Lambeth, which is also the first BSF Special Educational Needs (SEN) school.
Ironmongery specified and supplied includes door handles and finger guards from the Dryad product range, which is exclusive to Wolseley’s specialist builders’ merchant, Build Center.
Wolseley also supplied a wide range of sanitaryware via its Plumb Center branch in Barking, including Twyford time flow taps to minimise water usage and Twyford disabled washroom packs.
Matt Lightbody, Wolseley’s Building Schools for the Future projects manager, said: “With our established and efficient supply chain, national branch network, breadth of products and wealth of experience in the education sector, we are well placed to service the varied needs of projects such as this and are delighted to have been specified by Apollo contractors.
“We can also offer guidance on energy efficient products, due to hands-on experience in this area, having just built the Wolseley Sustainable Building Center.”
The new Michael Tippett Special School has been designed by Marks Barfield, creators of the London Eye.
BSF aims to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school in England over a period of 15 years. Investment will be rolled out to every part of England in 15 waves, subject to future public spending decisions.
