Installers warm to A1 insulation scheme

Government backed scheme provides major opportunity for installers to generate new business

More than 1,400 insulation installers have signed up to the A1 insulation scheme during its first six months of operation – with hundreds of thousands of pounds of funding already claimed by installers.

The Carbon Emission Reduction Target (CERT) is an obligation placed on energy suppliers to help reduce domestic carbon dioxide emissions. As part of this, npower is funding the A1 Insulation scheme, which offers up to £700* cashback to registered installers when they purchase selected insulation products from Build Center. The scheme is unusual in that the funding is available to the installers, rather than directly to end users.

Recent government announcements on combating rising energy prices have prioritised home insulation as a means for households to reduce energy bills.

Build Center, part of the Wolseley group, is an official partner of A1 insulation. The scheme also involves Rockwool Insulation and managing agents Sustain working closely together to enable more people - including the Priority Group of over 70s or those receiving selected benefits - to reduce their carbon emissions through more effective insulation.

Installers can sign up to the scheme in any of Build Center’s 260 branches nationwide, or online at www.a1-insulation.co.uk. Once registered, installers are entitled to a maximum of £700 cashback on completion of an installation*.
The scheme enables installers to offer their customers free or significant discounts on quality Rockwool insulation products, which are waterproof, non-combustible, offer excellent thermal and acoustic performance, and unrivalled sustainability credentials. In addition, registered installers have access to free Rockwool product training and may also benefit from new business leads passed on by the official partners of the scheme.

A1 insulation was introduced because effective insulation is integral to reducing carbon emissions from people’s homes. As an example, 15 per cent of heating is lost through the roof of a house with less than 60mm loft insulation. According to the Energy Saving Trust, typically a house with 270mm of loft insulation will save around £155 per year compared to a similarly sized house with no loft insulation.

Lee Chamberlain, owner of East Midlands-based installer Lee Chamberlain Lofts, said: “We’ve had a resoundingly positive response from customers to date, and thanks to word of mouth and recommendations the enquiries are snowballing – we’re currently receiving an average of 20 requests per week.

“It’s fantastic to be able to offer customers free or discounted effective and high quality insulation as part of our services, and the scheme is a major opportunity for installers to generate new business. Our customers have been very receptive to the scheme, especially given the current economic climate and increasing fuel prices.”

For further information, to register onto the scheme and for full terms and conditions of the A1 Insulation scheme visit the A1 Insulation website (www.a1-insulation.co.uk) or contact Sustain on 0845 6000 337.

*This will vary depending on whether the end user is in the priority group, the depth of the loft’s current insulation and the size and type of the property.
